PayPal Express Chained Payments Set Up

You've decided to go with PayPal Express Chain Payments. Great! Let's get that set up.

To set up, simply complete the following:

Step 1

Ensure that you have a PayPal Business account set up with your marketplace name as the business. Also of note, your Vendors will also be required to have PayPal Business Account.

To upgrade your current PayPal Personal Account to a Business or Premier Account:

  1. Go to and log in to your PayPal account
  2. Click the Upgrade Now button at the bottom of the page.
  3. The next page will allow you to choose a personal Premier Account or a Business Account. Simply select which type of account you would like, and click the Continue button.
  4. If you have selected a Business Account, you will be asked to enter your Business Information and click Submit.

Step 2

Your business address must be in a country that support PayPal Express Chain Payments (see  here for a list of available countries)

We need to enter the following information into your Near Me marketplace PayPal Express Chain Payments integration setup:

You can find items A, B, C and D by following these steps in your PayPal account:

Choose your Payment Countries and Payment Currencies:

Step 6

The final step is to contact Paypal by calling 1-888-221-1161 and ask them to enable "Express Checkout reference transactions".  Outside of the United States, contact Paypal and ask for assistance with Website Integrations and they will transfer you to the correct department. This part is critical as it allows the billing agreement between your marketplace and your vendors to be enabled. This will only take a moment to do over the phone. They will send you an email when this is complete (can take a day or two). Once you receive notification, your marketplace is ready to take transactions.
